Door to door Salesmen

I had a guy knock on my door today (whose first mistake was waking me from my nap on my recliner...) trying to sell his brand's home security. The idea that I'm nowhere near unpacked aside, I am looking forward to doing my own security system. I'm sure it will be an effort in futility, but that seems fun to me. I just wasn't interested. I hadn't shopped around at
Something he said bothers me still. "I got your information from [website name]. Can you imagine if we turned our efforts to nefarious purposes?"
Think about that for a minute.
That website (and the internet in general) doesn't have my annual income, my views on gun control, what kind of dog I have, or if I have PTSD and would turn into a naked rage if woken by a loud crash in the night. (You could probably aggregate that info from several website's, given time and dedication.) He was using fear to sell me his product. Well, good for him if that underhanded sh*t works. I know that a thief doesn't care if they know my name before they kick in the front door. They want to grab my valuables and get out.
So next time a salesman darkens your doorstep, remember that they are trying to get you to make an emotional decision.
Stop, breathe, and analyze.
Will that security system really be able to stop thieves? Or will it just catch a few masked men on camera kicking in your door and hauling off a few thousand dollars of your quickly pawn-able things, never to be seen again. Back up all your photos and data off-site!

  1. I hate when salesmen use fear to sell their stuff. Never works on me, as a matter of fact it's a complete turn off.

Consider changing the color scheme, black backgrounds are hard to read...I had to make a copy of your text and paste it in notes to read it. Just sayin'. (~Mom)
